A virtual assistant that offers continuous monitoring at home for the elderly and chronic patients.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Tucuvi is a virtual assistant based on AI (artificial intelligence) and voice technology. Through calls to the landline telephone number of the users' home or mobile, it accompanies and monitors patients (mainly elderly patients), obtaining continuous care at home.
The purpose of the calls of this "virtual caregiver / assistant" is to track different diseases and / or situations of its users. For example: reminding them to take the medication or follow some treatment guidelines, do cognitive stimulation exercises, monitor symptoms of heart failure and other pathologies, caregiver satisfaction assessment, detection of basic needs, loneliness, etc.
Its founders are María and Marcos, two young biomedical engineers with great social concern. María had the idea for the startup when she worked at a medical device multinational. In this environment, he realized that much of the innovation in continuous monitoring was created for young people, but solutions geared towards the older population continued to be obsolete. So he decided to create a solution that would ensure that all seniors could also enjoy "continuous monitoring of their health from their own home and benefit from technology like the rest of us."
Estudió Ingeniería biomédica en la Universidad Carlos III (UC3M), a lo que añadió un máster en UX, con especialidad en accesibilidad e interfaces de voz en EOI (Escuela de Organización Industrial). PROBLEM
Applications in the current situation of COVID-19
At the present time with the COVID-19 situation, we are having problems when it comes to serving a large part of the population. The high number of those affected, together with the growing concern of the population, require a strong response capacity, not only at a health level for the sickest, but also when evaluating, monitoring patients and informing people who need it.
In this context, Tucuvi can play a vital role. The functions that the virtual assistant can perform to alleviate this situation are the following:
IMPACT MISSION
Currently, more than 21% of the European population is over 65 years old (156 million people), 96% of whom age in their usual homes. It is also important to note that, in Spain, and in general in the rest of European countries, around 75% of health spending (4.8% of GDP) is dedicated to this segment of the population.
Tucuvi identifies the following problems with the management and care of the elderly:
Tucuvi is a home care solution based on artificial intelligence and voice technology as a virtual caregiver (Virtual Healthcare Assistant). Its mission is to guarantee the continuity of care for the elderly in their home, evolving care towards prevention and personalization. Tucuvi calls the patient by telephone, engaging in an intelligent conversation to offer and collect information, setting alarms that allow preventive action
The software consists of a central engine of artificial intelligence in the cloud, specialized in recognizing the language and voice of older people with different customizable modules for different use cases.
